Chayon-Ryu 35th Anniversary Celebration

Grandmaster Kim Soo, founder of Chayon-Ryu Martial Arts, was honored at a dinner for the 35th anniversary of Kim Soo Karate in Houston. The event was held at Massa's Restaurant. Grandmaster Kim Soo, who came to Houston in 1968, is a true example of the American dream-come-true.
Mayor Brown and First Lady Frances Brown presented a proclamation to Grandmaster Kim. Frances Brown took karate from Grandmaster Kim in the mid '80s. City Councilman Mark Goldberg, a former karate student in the 80's, also presented a letter from Governor Perry to Grandmaster Kim. City Councilman Michael Berry sent his aide Carl Davis to present a congratulatory certificate.
Other attendees included current and former CYR students from around the country who demonstrated true Chayon-Ryu spirit by sharing their experiences and memories with the audience. Towards the end of the evening, Grandmaster was presented with a 35th Anniversary glass plaque from his students symbolizing his commitment to teaching and his dedication to his students.
