The Chayon-Ryu Masters

The Chayon-Ryu Black Belt is not easy to obtain. Reaching 1st Dan Black typically takes 5 years of continuous, active training in the system.

All students are required to start helping with classes as assistant instructors and attending Instructor Clinics when they reach 5th Gup (Blue Belt), and to begin attending Black Belt classes when they reach 2nd Gup (Brown Belt).

All Black Belt promotions require submission of a written thesis on a topic assigned by Grandmaster Kim Soo.

Master status is awarded at 5th Dan Black (reflecting a 15-20 year commitment to the system).
